Katelyn Mackay
(She/Her/Hers)
Katelyn Mackay is a Registered Psychotherapist (#17254) and member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Infusing her practice with warmth and humour, Katelyn is experienced in helping a range of people navigating life’s challenges with empathy, wisdom, and a steady belief that things really can get better.
Katelyn specializes in supporting individuals through life’s ever evolving transitions including matters of identity, such as exploring shifts in gender or sexuality, or navigating themes of loss, illness, trauma, grief, and relationship changes. Having grown up in a military family, Katelyn learned the rhythms of change early in life and brings that comfort level and familiarity to her work. She focuses on giving clients a safe space to be held in their emotional experience, allowing them to move towards self-compassion and develop the skills they need to cope with the reality of life’s unpredictability, rather than living in fear of it.
Katelyn is passionate about supporting individuals in relationships, whether they are experiencing conflict or navigating the grief of a breakup. She believes that understanding one’s own needs is the first step toward creating change, whether that means repairing a relationship or learning to move on. With a gentle, empathetic presence, Katelyn helps clients explore their emotions and move forward with greater self-awareness and peace.
Katelyn enjoys working with adult children of alcoholics (ACOA), and the family members who have been impacted by a loved one struggling with substance use disorder. Having experienced the complexities of addiction in her own family, she understands firsthand the emotional toll it takes. Katelyn helps clients address feelings of anger, confusion, and isolation, guiding them toward healthier relationships while also providing the tools to set boundaries and care for themselves.
For Katelyn, healing is not a one-size-fits-all process; it’s personal, nuanced, and rarely linear. She is patient and compassionate, knowing that some stories require time and space to be told, especially those weighed down by shame or fear. Her goal is to help clients reconnect with their own strength, reclaim their autonomy, and rediscover their purpose. Katelyn feels honoured to be a part of and work closely with clients from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, recognizing the courage it takes to express one’s authentic self, and offering support as they explore the emotional impact of identity and societal expectations.
Katelyn grew up on Vancouver Island where she learned to call treetops her cathedrals and to find treasures in tidepools. Today, she is proud to call Guelph home and can often be found reading in the sun or watching what she calls the “duck politics” by the river. When she’s not in session, Katelyn can be found thrifting, bribing the cats in her neighborhood, or enjoying a friendly game of pickleball.
